SPRING is about to SPRING!

Posted on February 14, 2022 by Tyler McDonald in Uncategorized

It is just around the corner, are you ready?

Winter is about to make its departure and spring will soon be making its appearance. The first day of spring is known as the vernal equinox, In Latin, the word vernal means spring and equinox means equal night. Spring occurs this year on March 22nd.

Here are some interesting facts to ponder as this season approaches:

Let us begin our list with a not-so-good fact and get THAT out of the way first. According to a Facebook study, early spring is when couples are the most likely to break up. DONE! Now onto more interesting and positive facts!

Studies show that babies born in the spring are more likely to be night owls and optimistic, and less likely to be diagnosed with asthma.

Usually, the earliest spring flowers to bloom each year are tulips, daffodils, lilacs, irises, lilies and DANDELIONS (of course!).

Remember, a well-cared for lawn helps sell your home more quickly. Early spring

lawn care tips are:

  • Tune up your mower
  • Pick up twigs and debris that collected during the winter
  • Repair bare spots
  • Prevent weeds and crabgrass in the North and kill weeds in the South
  • Feed the grass
  • Mow high
  • Edge beds
  • Apply mulch

*In Japan, they believe spring begins once their national flower, the cherry blossom, starts to bloom.

*Spring fever may actually be a real (and good) thing! Scientists believe that the longer days cause people to be more active, creative, and happy.

*Although baby birds are born with the ability to sing, they usually do not learn how to until spring, when they hear other birds chirping while looking for a mate.

*Set your clocks! This year, Daylight Savings Time is on Sunday, March 13, meaning we all spring forward one hour that day!

*The myth that it is possible to balance an egg on its end on the spring equinox is just that: a myth. Trying to balance an oval-shaped object on its end is no easier on the spring equinox than on any other day.

*Honeybees are more likely to swarm during the spring. They swarm in order to start new colonies from successful ones. Surprisingly, swarming honeybees are very docile and are the most friendly they will ever be all year.

*While the origins of April Fools Day are uncertain, some believe it started in 16th century France when the observation of New Years changed from April 1st to January 1st. Those who continued to celebrate on April 1st were called April Fools.

*According to the National Association of Realtors, spring is the most popular season to sell or buy a home. Are you considering a move?
