This will be located between Dodge Street and Capitol Avenue from 11 th and 12 th Streets. Steelhouse will
be a live music venue which is planned to open May 12, 2023 and will be able to seat audiences of 1,500
to 3,000.
LEWIS AND CLARK LANDING REOPENS:
Located at 345 Riverfront Drive, along the west side of the Missouri River (east of the CHI Health Center
Omaha Arena). Once the renovation is completed, the development will feature a prairie garden, large
green space, volleyball courts, sandy beaches with fire pits, and an awesome playground.
HEARTLAND OF AMERICA PARK REOPENS:
Heartland Park is located just south of Lewis and Clark Landing, along the Missouri River. This is another
RiverFront development project planned to reopen in 2023. Features of the park include a lakeside
amphitheater, bocce courts and a Skate Ribbon that can be used year-round for both roller skating and
ice skating.
KIEWIT LUMINARIUM:
The luminarium is located at the Lewis and Clark Landing, 345 Riverfront Drive. Keep an eye out for the
opening date, which is slated for sometime this Spring. Guests of all ages will experience a ‘hands-on’
center filled with exhibits in science, technology, and engineering.
WARHORSE CASINO:
The casino’s address is 6303 Q Street and will be the first casino to open in Omaha in decades.
WarHorse will open in phases, beginning in August 2023 with about 800 slot machines. It is expected to
be completed in 2024-2025 as a full-scale casino with table games, a sportsbook, and 1,200 slot
machines.
SMASH PARK:
Coming to LaVista in 2024, Smash Park will offer recreation (including PICKLEBALL), food and drinks.
Additional activities in the 30,000 square-foot space will be duckpin bowling, private karaoke “Sing
Suite”, axe throwing and an outdoor area featuring yard games, bocce ball, and shuffleboard.
JOSLYN ART MUSEUM REOPENS:
While the museum has undergone major renovations and expansions, it is expected to reopen in 2024.
The project includes the addition of the 42,000-square-foot Rhonda and Howard Hawks Pavilion, with
new galleries, public spaces, office space, and classrooms. According to the museum: “In the new gallery
spaces, the public will have unprecedented access to works from the nationally renowned Phillip G.
Schrager Collection of Contemporary Art. The Museum received a transformative gift of over fifty works
from that collection, instantly propelling Joslyn to a new position on the international museum stage
and greatly expanding the range of twentieth-century artists represented in its collection.”
NORTH OMAHA AIRPORT REVITALIZATION:
According to WOWT, plans are in the works to turn the airport into a “club-like” destination spot for
leisure pilots. The plans will include tearing down existing hangars and erecting an aviator’s hotel,
including a 13,000 square-foot clubhouse. A bar restaurant, lounge space, golf simulators, possible spa
and fitness areas are also being discussed. Patrick Ackerman, who purchased the property, says, “It will
be mostly single prop planes, single engine planes, maybe a few light twins, (and) occasionally you’ll get
a turbo prop that comes in and out.” Plans go before the city planning board in February and if things
proceed, the project should be a go by the end of 2024 or the first of 2025.
CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL AND MEDICAL CENTER PEDIATRIC FACILITY:
WOWT cites that plans have been announced for a new pediatric facility at 204 th and Harrison Streets.
According to the report, ‘the 60,000 square-foot facility will house specialty clinics, a Children’s
Physicians primary care office, and outpatient rehab with an outdoor area, as well as radiology and lab
services. Construction is set to begin soon on the ten-acre lot, with opening anticipated for spring 2024.’
